Covenas is a Caribbean port (at Morrosquillo Gulf), beach resort town and municipality (since 2002) in Colombia's Sucre Department, with population around 17,000. Columbia's principal port (and the country's largest by annual shipping volumes) is Buenaventura.

The settlement (as Hacienda Santa Barbara de Cobena) was founded (as a slave trade port) in the mid-16th century and developed (as a cattle meat and oil export port) in the early-20th century. The tourism industry started to develop in the 1960s (targeting mainly domestic tourists) and largely since the 1980s (with more advanced infrastructure and modern amenities targeting foreign vacationers).

From Puerto Covenas (locode COCVE), cruise ship tourists are offered bus travel tours to San Antero (Cordoba Department), approx 11 km (7 mi) to the west-southwest. Further from San Antero on bus excursions can be visited Tuchin (indigenous village/Zenu culture). From Cavenas is also accessed the heritage town Santa Cruz de Lorica.

Also in close proximity to Covenas is the artificial island Santa Cruz del Islote (part of San Bernardo Archipelago) - famous for being one of the world's most densely populated islands (population around 1300, land area 1,3 hectares/3,2 acres).

Covenas Airport is a military airport that also serves charter flights (by SARPA/Servicios Aereos Panamericanos/charter airline with air ambulance services, based at Bogota's Eldorado Airport). The seasonal charter flights link with Medellin City (Olaya Herrera Airport) from can be accessed domestic and international airport destinations. The upgraded Sincelejo-Cartagena road links Covenas with Medellin (bus travel time ~6 hours), Cartagena (~2 hours), Monteria (Cordoba Department's capital city/~1,5 hours), Lorica Cordoba (municipality's shopping center/~0,5 hours).

Since 1974, Port Covenas handles mainly oil tankers serving Ecopetrol (fka Colombian Petroleum Company). Also since 1974 here is headquartered the Colombian Navy (at the ARC Covenas Naval Base/infantry battalion and training base/school).
