Harbour Island is part of Out Islands (Bahamas) and is located off the Eleuthera Island's northeastern coast. Its population is under 2,000.
The island's only town - Dunmore Town, is named after John Murray (Earl of Dunmore). He was Bahamas' Governor (in the period 1786-1798) and had his summer residence here.
Harbour Island's turquoise waters and powder-soft, pink-sand beaches rank it among the country's most popular vacation travel destinations, especially among Americans. All of the pink beaches are along the isle's eastern coast. The sand's pink hue comes from a microscopic organism with a reddish-pink shell.
Harbour Island (called "Briland" by the locals) also features British Colonial-style buildings. The island is accessible mainly by airplane, with international flights to North Eleuthera Airport, followed by abot 10-min watertaxi ride to Dunmore Town.
Next photo shows Valentine's (Residences, Resort & Marina). The top-luxury leisure complex is located on the island's harbor side, near Dunmore Town's best shops and restaurants. The complex features 50x Condo-Hotel buildings, 50x Marina slips (baot / yacht berths), its own restaurant, dive shop.
Harbour Island cruise terminal
Most cruise ships to Harbour Island anchor near Dunmore Town and their passengers are transported via the ship's tender boats.
Some ships may anchor in open sea, near the island's east coast, and tender their passengers to some of the pink beaches there. Among the best watersports activities offered on the island are boating, deepsea- and sport-fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, sea kayaking, water skiing, windsurfing, parasailing, wakeboarding.
