Klemtu is a port village on Swindle Island (British Columbia, Canada). Swindle Island is accessible via BC Ferries service between Port Hardy and Bella Coola (mainland Canada), also stopping at Klemtu. Klemtu is approx 190 km (119 ml) west of Bella Coola (also the nearest access point to British Columbia's highway system).
Klemtu is located approx 219 km (136 ml) north of Port Hardy (Vancouver Island's northeastern coast), Here live together two tribes - Kitasoo (Tsimshians) and Xaixais (Heiltsuk people). Island's total population is around 500. During summer months, locals engage in fishing and hunting. Kitasoo Native Band owns and operates the 1925-built China Hat Cannery.
Klemtu's waterfront has a long boardwalk, commercial centre (around the wharf), general store, Cafe, gas station (marine and auto fuels), health clinic. Swindle Island is also popular for kayaking and diving.
