Manus Island is the largest of Admiralty Islands (PNG) and country's 5th largest with total area 2100 km2 (811 ml2) and population around 50,000. Lorengau is the main port town and capital of Manus Province (Papua New Guinea),
- The province is served by Momote Airport located on Los Negros Island. Both islands (Manus and Los Negros) are connected by bridge.
- The island is covered with jungles (lowland rainforests). Its highest elevation point (Mt Dremsel) is 718 m (2356 ft) located on the southern part.
- Manus Island is famous worldwide for its Emerald green snail (aka "Manus green tree snail") whose shells are harvested and sold for maiking jewelry. The snail shell is colored in unusually vivid green. Overharvesting the snails led to decline in their population. Rainforest logging is also a serious threat to the species' survival.
- As part of Australia's Pacific Solution, in 2011 on the island was built a detention centre for asylum-seekers. In April 2016, PNG's Supreme Court ruled that asylum seekers detention on the Island was illegal.
