Parga (Greece)

Parga is a port town in northwestern Epirus (Greece), located between Igoumenitsa and Preveza. Parga is a resort town famous for its numerous seaside restaurants and taverns (serving fresh fish) and beaches, of which the most popular are Ai Giannaki, Lichnos, Kryoneri, Piso Kryoneri, Valtos, Sarakiniko. Best activities for tourists include coastal walks, scenic tours, water sports (fishing, wind surfing, diving, water skiing).

Town's population is around 3,000. The area was first inhabited the Greek tribe Thesprotians. The ancient city Toryne was here. Current town was established in the early 13th century. The Castle is on the top of a hill overlooking the town. It was used to protect Parga from the sea and mainland, and was built in the 11th century by the residents for protection from pirates and Ottoman Turks.
