MS Celestyal Journey (built in 1994 as "MS Ryndam", last refurbished in 2025, previously refurbished by P&O Australia as "Pacific Aria" in 2018, and by HAL in 2015) is a cruise ship owned and operated by Louis Group/Celestyal Cruises, alongside fleetmate Celestyal Discovery (1982).
Originally launched and operated as "MS Ryndam" by Holland America Line (HAL) from 1994 to 2015, the vessel was transferred to P&O Australia following a scheduled refurbishment to adapt her for the Australia/New Zealand market, as announced by Carnival Corporation (HAL's parent company) in May 2014. The transfer took place in 2015.
In April 2021, Pacific Aria was scheduled to leave the P&O Australia fleet (final voyage on April 9, 2021, Melbourne-Fremantle-Singapore) and join CMV UK as "Ida Pfeiffer." However, CMV filed for bankruptcy in July 2020. Between 2020 and 2023, the ship—renamed Aegean Goddess—was owned by SeaJets Ferries (Greece) and remained laid up in cold storage at Port Lavrio (Attica, Greece).
Pacific Aria/Celestyal Journey features a total of 630 staterooms accommodating 1,258 passengers (maximum capacity 1,512), served by 560 crew and staff. The vessel has 12 decks (9 accessible to passengers, 5 with cabins), 15 dining and beverage venues (restaurants, lounges, bars), 2 swimming pools (one with a retractable glass roof, one for adults), 2 outdoor Jacuzzis, and 8 elevators. The ship's interior redesign—transitioning from MS Ryndam to Pacific Aria—was executed by Tillberg Design Studio (Sweden).
Note: Onboard self-service launderettes (for passenger laundry and ironing) are located on decks 5 and 9. Laundry services are available but not included in the cruise fare. Smoking is permitted only in designated outdoor areas.
The transformation from Ryndam to Pacific Aria was completed during a scheduled drydock refurbishment in Sydney, NSW by Swedish firm Tillberg Design. Unique features of the revamped ship include three dining rooms offering Italian, Asian, and HAL’s signature “Waterfront Restaurant” cuisines; a boutique winery with premium Australian wines; an indoor cinema; a cookery school; the Salt Grill Bar (specializing in Luke Mangan cocktails); a large indoor-outdoor buffet restaurant; a spacious main pool area with a sliding roof; and the P&OEdge active sports program.
Pacific Aria Deck Plan Changes – 2018 Refurbishment Review
The 12-day drydock refurbishment in Singapore (August 3–15, 2018) introduced the following enhancements:
- The Dome (Deck 12 forward) was redesigned with a nautical theme (dark blue and white), new soft lighting, and elegant drapes. By day, it serves as a space for board games, dance classes, trivia, and lounging. At night, it transforms into a chic dance venue.
- Elemis Spa (Deck 11 forward) was upgraded with a Barber Shop featuring stylish decor (gold-framed mirrors, leather swivel chairs, premium curtains) and offering professional grooming services such as hot towel shaves, beard trimming, and styling.
- All Penthouse, Suite, and Balcony staterooms received new carpets and updated outdoor furniture.
- The ship's hull was repainted with the fleet’s new Southern Cross-themed livery.
In total, 1,000 pieces of furniture were replaced, along with 6,000 meters of fabric and over 10,000 square meters of carpeting. Public spaces were refreshed with new artwork and contemporary wallpapers.
