Viking Skirnir (built 2015) is one of the new-generation Viking Cruises longships. The river cruise ship is named after Skirnir, a figure in Norse mythology who served as a messenger of the gods. He was the envoy of Freyr (the god of kings), tasked with courting the goddess Geror on his behalf. As a reward for this favor, Skirnir demanded Freyr’s mighty sword. He is also known for his mission to the mountain dwarves on behalf of Odin (the father of the gods), who required the skilled blacksmiths to forge Gleipnir—the magical restraint used to bind the monstrous wolf Fenrir (son of Loki). The name Skirnir in Old Norse means “bright one.”
Viking Skirnir’s deck plan includes a total of 95 staterooms for 190 passengers, served by 50 crew members. The ship has 4 passenger decks and 1 glass elevator (connecting the Main and Upper decks only). The Viking longship Skirnir does not feature a gym, pool/whirlpool, or spa. Guests may use health and spa facilities at luxury hotels along the ship’s itinerary route.
