On May 6th, 2023, a medical emergency took place on CCL-Carnival Cruise Line's ship Carnival Dream shortly after it left Galveston Texas for an 8-night Eastern Caribbean voyage.

An 86-year-old male passenger swallowed a button cell/coin battery, causing gastrointestinal bleeding. Upon examining the man, the onboard medical staff suggested a medevac in consultation with the USCG's duty flight surgeon.

On the same day at 7:22 pm, the US Coast Guard received a call for a recommended medical evacuation from Carnival Dream. For the mission was dispatched an MH-65 Dolphin/rescue helicopter from CG Air Station Houston, which rendezvoused with the liner approx 50 mi (80 km) off Galveston.

The medevac was successful, and the elderly man was hoisted by the helicopter crew and taken to Galveston's University of Texas Medical Branch.
