Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has officially announced the appointment of Jason Liberty (Royal Caribbean Group's President and CEO) as the Chairman of CLIA's Board of Directors.

Jason Liberty assumes the role from Pierfrancesco Vago, the executive chairman of MSC Cruises SA, who served in the position since January 2021.

Having taken on the role of President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group in early 2022, Liberty brings ~2 decades of experience in the cruise industry, including an extensive tenure as the company’s Chief Financial Officer. Under his leadership last year, the Group demonstrated significant business growth, ranking among the top-performing stocks of the year. Liberty oversees three leading brands in the industry - RCI/Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity and Silversea - each known for pioneering innovations in their respective segments. Additionally, he manages joint ventures with Germany-based TUI and Hapag-Lloyd, in which the company holds a 50% ownership.

As the global chair for CLIA, Liberty assumes a leadership role in guiding the CLIA Global Executive Committee and the Board of Directors. In this capacity, he is responsible for establishing the overall strategic direction of the association on behalf of its cruise line members, representing 95% of the world’s ocean-going cruise lines. Reflecting CLIA's long-term strategy, member cruise lines have set ambitious sustainability goals. Furthermore, each year sees improvements in the efficiency of the CLIA member fleet as cruise lines embrace new technologies, innovations, and, when available, the adoption of sustainable alternative fuels.
