72-year-old American passenger dies after falling overboard from MSC World Europa ship in Valletta (Malta)

A 72-year-old American individual passed away on Wednesday, February 14, following an incident aboard a passenger ship in the Grand Harbour (Valletta, Malta), according to authorities.

The incident occurred ~5:00 p.m. while the ship was docked in the Grand Harbour. Preliminary investigations conducted by the police indicated that the victim, a passenger on the same vessel, fell into the sea.

Upon discovery, the victim received immediate medical attention from an onsite medical team, and subsequently, an ambulance transported him to Mater Dei Hospital for necessary treatment.

Unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Magistrate Charmaine Galea was briefed on the case and initiated an inquiry.

Police are currently conducting ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

According to Port Valletta's schedule, the only cruise liner visiting on February 14 was MSC World Europa, due to arrive in Barcelona on February 16th.
