As of May 2025, RCI-Royal Caribbean International has extended its suspension of port calls to Labadee, Haiti, through the summer season. This decision is attributed to persistent security concerns stemming from escalating violence and political instability in the region. Although Labadee is situated over 100 miles from Port-au-Prince, the cruise line has opted for a cautious approach, prioritizing the safety of passengers and crew.
The suspension affects multiple vessels and itineraries. For instance, the July 20, 2025, sailing of Oasis of the Seas, a 6-night Western Caribbean cruise departing from Fort Lauderdale, has replaced its planned stop at Labadee with a visit to Nassau, Bahamas. Similarly, Adventure of the Seas, homeported in Port Canaveral, and Liberty of the Seas, sailing from New Jersey, have removed Labadee from their routes during the same period. Even Royal Caribbean’s flagship, Icon of the Seas, has recently omitted the destination from her itinerary.
In response to these changes, Royal Caribbean is offering alternative ports where feasible, such as CocoCay, Grand Cayman, and Nassau. In certain cases, schedules have been modified to include extended port stays; for example, Oasis of the Seas has planned a longer visit to Falmouth, Jamaica.
The cruise line has communicated these itinerary adjustments directly to affected guests, emphasizing that the decision was made out of an abundance of caution. Prepaid shore excursions booked for Labadee are being refunded as onboard credits.
The U.S. Department of State currently maintains a Level 4 travel advisory for Haiti, advising against all travel due to risks including kidnapping, crime, civil unrest, and limited healthcare infrastructure.
Royal Caribbean has not specified when it plans to resume visits to Labadee, indicating that the suspension will remain in effect until conditions improve.
