MSC Seascape ship breaks mooring ropes at Ocean Cay Bahamas

   June 1, 2025 ,   Accidents

On May 31, 2025, MSC Seascape experienced a mooring incident while docked at Ocean Cay Bahamas.

A sudden squall brought high winds that exceeded the capacity of the vessel's mooring lines/ropes, causing them to snap and the ship to drift from the pier. The gangway was dislodged into the water during the event.

Passengers were returning to the ship as the weather deteriorated. In response to the emergency, the crew promptly secured the vessel and restricted boarding to ensure safety. Reports indicate that there was one injury; however, the crew's swift actions prevented more serious consequences.

The incident occurred during a 3-night roundtrip Miami (departure May 29th), with scheduled stops in Nassau and Ocean Cay. The ship was expected to leave Ocean Cay at 8:00 p.m.

Despite the unexpected weather event, the itinerary proceeded, and the vessel returned to Miami as planned on June 1st.

Such incidents, while uncommon, underscore the challenges posed by sudden weather changes, particularly when vessels are moored. The crew's adherence to emergency protocols ensured passenger safety and minimized disruptions.
