NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line has cancelled ~3 months of scheduled voyages aboard Norwegian Viva, affecting departures between November 1st, 2027 and January 23rd, 2028.
The vessel had been scheduled to operate a transatlantic crossing from Lisbon to San Juan before commencing a winter season based in Puerto Rico. Under revised deployment plans, however, Norwegian Viva will instead reposition to Miami, resulting in the cancellation of the affected sailings.
In communication sent to booked guests, the cruise line stated that itinerary adjustments are occasionally required to optimise operations in response to changing port availability. The company noted that, while it seeks to preserve original itineraries whenever possible, operational considerations can necessitate modifications to scheduled deployments.
Passengers impacted by the cancellations have been offered alternative cruise options, together with full refunds and future cruise credits equivalent to 10% of the original cruise fare.
Norwegian Cruise Line further advised that the deployment changes form part of its ongoing efforts to refine its global programme and enhance future voyage offerings, while expressing appreciation for guests’ understanding and indicating its intention to welcome affected passengers aboard on future sailings.
Although large-scale cruise cancellations remain relatively uncommon, they are not unusual within the industry. Such changes can arise from a range of operational requirements, including charter commitments, scheduled dry-dock periods, technical maintenance, refurbishment projects or broader fleet deployment adjustments. Similar revisions have been made by other operators in recent years, including the cancellation of several planned voyages to accommodate changes in vessel scheduling and operational priorities.
