A crew member aboard Regal Princess has died after going overboard while the vessel was sailing off the coast of Cancún (Mexico) during a 7-day Caribbean voyage that departed Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on July 11th. Princess Cruises confirmed the fatality after an extensive search-and-rescue operation conducted with the assistance of local maritime authorities and the nearby Carnival Jubilee.
The cruise line has not released the identity of the deceased or disclosed the circumstances surrounding the incident. In a statement, Princess Cruises extended its condolences to the crew member's family, friends and colleagues, adding that grief counselling and support services were being made available to both crew members and guests affected by the event. The company also acknowledged the assistance provided by the local authorities and the crew of Carnival Jubilee during the search operation.
Following the conclusion of the search, Regal Princess resumed its scheduled itinerary, departing the waters off Cancún (Mexico) and continuing towards Belize, its next planned port of call. The 7-night cruise is expected to return to Fort Lauderdale as originally scheduled on July 18th.
