HAL-Holland America Line has opened bookings for its 2028 Alaska schedule, continuing a presence in the region that spans more than 80 years.
The program combines destination-intensive itineraries, wildlife viewing and scenic cruising, with several new voyages and the introduction of the refurbished Oosterdam.
The 2028 programme includes 7- to 18-day cruises aboard Oosterdam, Noordam, Eurodam, Koningsdam, Westerdam and Zaandam. Sailings will operate roundtrip from Seattle and Vancouver, between Vancouver and Whittier, and on a new itinerary from San Diego to Vancouver.
Among the new offerings is an 11-day California to Alaska: Shores, Fjords & Glaciers voyage (MS Zaandam), departing San Diego on April 29th, 2028. The itinerary includes Glacier Bay NP, Juneau, Ketchikan, Wrangell, Klawock, and Prince Rupert BC.
Another addition is the first Holland America Line itineraries to include scenic cruising through Nootka Sound. Selected 14-day Great Alaska Explorer and 18-day Great Bear Rainforest & Alaska Explorer voyages will transit the remote waterway on Vancouver Island's west coast, known for its forested shores and rugged coastline.
HAL's 2028 program will also introduce Oosterdam as the first Alaska-based ship to feature Holland America Evolution, described by the company as the largest investment in its 153-year history. The transformation includes new Solo Verandah staterooms, Bridgeview Suites with forward-facing views, the Grand Dutch Cafe, refreshed staterooms and updated public areas.
Oosterdam will also serve as the primary ship for HAL's Alaska Cruisetours, combining the sea voyage with overland journeys into Denali and the Yukon. Details of HAL's 2028 Cruisetour programme will be announced separately.
The wider Alaska programme will include a range of established itineraries. Noordam will operate 14-day Great Alaska Explorer cruises from Seattle, including calls at Juneau, Ketchikan, Prince Rupert, Anchorage, Kodiak and Valdez, as well as visits to Hubbard Glacier and Endicott Arm/Dawes Glacier. Some departures will also include Nootka Sound.
Zaandam will operate an 18-day Great Bear Rainforest & Alaska Explorer itinerary from Vancouver, featuring Glacier Bay, the Great Bear Rainforest, Bella Bella, Homer, Kodiak, Anchorage and Valdez. Oosterdam will introduce a 16-day version of the Great Bear Rainforest & Alaska Explorer from Vancouver, incorporating scenic cruising through Johnstone Strait, Grenville Channel and Princess Royal Channel.
The established 7-day Glacier Discovery itineraries between Vancouver and Whittier will operate with Oosterdam and Eurodam, with 36 departures scheduled during the season. 7-day Alaska Inside Passage cruises from Vancouver will be offered by Koningsdam, Zaandam and Oosterdam, while Westerdam and Noordam will operate 7-day Alaska Explorer sailings roundtrip from Seattle.
Holland America Line's Alaska programme also incorporates more than 200 shore excursions, including whale-watching and bear-viewing experiences, while onboard programming includes Alaska-focused presentations, National Park Service Rangers and wildlife specialists. Glacier itineraries will include destinations and waterways such as Glacier Bay, Hubbard Glacier, Dawes Glacier, Tracy Arm and College Fjord.
The company will also continue its Alaska-focused culinary programme, with regional seafood, Alaska Brunch and Alaska Seafood Boil offerings, along with cocktails using glacial ice and other destination-inspired dining experiences.
