Two passengers, including a 7-year-old child, were evacuated from RCI-Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas in the Bahamas on Friday, September 18th, for emergency medical treatment.
The ship, which was sailing toward New Jersey, altered its course and returned toward Nassau after a passenger required hospital treatment. According to an announcement from the ship’s captain, Nassau was the nearest location where the passenger could receive the required medical care.
While the ship was returning to Nassau, a second passenger was reported to be critically ill. Both passengers were subsequently taken ashore in Nassau for further treatment.
Royal Caribbean has not disclosed the passengers’ medical conditions or the nature of the emergencies, and it has not been established whether the two incidents were related.
The medical evacuations also affected the ship’s schedule, delaying its subsequent departure and resulting in the cancellation of a scheduled port call in Florida.
Oasis of the Seas is now expected to reach its homeport at Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, at ~2:00 p.m. Sunday, ~8 hours later than its originally scheduled 6:00 a.m. arrival.
