Romanian Crew Member Dies After Dry Dock Accident

An accident occurred during dry dock refurbishment of Ponant's superyacht Le Boreal in port Valparaiso Chile on November 19, which resulted in the death of a young crew member.

According to authorities, the crew member passed away in the early morning hours after slipping from a ladder placed on the deck and fell 23 metres on the dock. The 25-year-old electronics engineer was identified as Andrei Madalin Circhea, from Constanta Romania. Some sources say he was previously working for Royal Caribbean.

Port authorities sent a medical team to perform procedures to revive the man, but they could not do much and pronounced him dead at the scene.

According to the Chilean authorities there were cameras that had recorded the tragedy and showed the accident with no intervention of anyone else.
