Scenic Cruises announced that Oscar-winning British actress Helen Mirren will serve as godmother for its upcoming cruise ship, Scenic Eclipse.
Mirren landed an Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in 2007 biopic The Queen. She will officially name the vessel in New York City on September 10.
The maiden voyage of Eclipse is scheduled for August 15 departing from Reykjavik on a 13-day trip to Quebec.
The ship is Scenic’s first "discovery yacht". It has been constructed to Polar Class 6 standards and has 10 dining options, 114 suites, two 6-passenger helicopters and one 6-guest submarine able to reach depths of nearly 1,000 feet.
