Princess Cruises Announces Name of 6th Royal-Class Ship

Princess Cruises revealed the name of its 6th Royal-Class ship - Discovery PrincessCarnival Corporation's most-premium brand Princess Cruises also introduced the largest inaugural launch program ever featuring worldwide itineraries offered on Discovery Princess to the Caribbean, the California Coast, South America, Mexico, and Europe for the 2021-2022 cruise season. The vessel will be the first-ever newbuild for Princess to be deployed on the US West Coast, with homeporting in Los Angeles.

Designed as a Princess MedallionClass vessel, the 143,700 GT, 3660-passenger Discovery Princess is currently under construction at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. The vessel will have all the signature features of the Royal-Class ships. The new liner is due to debut on November 3, 2021, on a 7-day "Mediterranean and Aegean" inaugural cruise from Civitavecchia-Rome to Piraeus-Athens.

The inaugural season of the newbuild includes 30 departures on a total of 21 unique itineraries to over 50 destinations in 23 countries, including a number of holiday sailings. Highlights include:

  • The Mediterranean: 8 itinerary options are offered sailing to 19 destinations in 8 countries, ranging in length from 7 to 21 days. Passengers can choose to sail from 3 homeports (Athens, Barcelona, Rome). Late-night calls are in Barcelona, Genoa and Mykonos Island. Departure dates are November 3, 10, 17 and 24, 2021.
  • The ship's Caribbean cruise program includes 6 voyages (4-8-16 days), 8 destinations (in 7 countries in the Eastern and Southern Caribbean). Departure dates are December 9, 13, 21 and 29, 2021.
  • South America: 22 destinations in 11 countries on 6 departures, including a 50-day relocation cruise (RepositionCruises.com) from homeport Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles. More Ashore (late-night calls) are offered in Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Lima. Departure dates are January 6, 24, February 7, 2022.
  • Mexico and the California Coast: The ship's US West Coast debut (in LA) is on March 1, 2022.  Passengers can book 7-day Mexican Riveria or 5-day roundtrips with Cabo San Lucas overnight. The 7-day "Classic California Coast" itinerary offers extended port stays in San Diego and San Francisco. Departure dates are March 1, 6, 13, April 3, 10, and May 1, 2022.
