Police Helicopter Transports 'Cruise Ship Stowaway'

A police helicopter was involved with transporting a "cruise ship stowaway" who was suffering a mental health episode from Isles of Scilly in order to receive treatment in Cornwall on Sunday, October 13.

Police were first called at ~9 am after a man was discovered hiding on CMV Columbus that had docked on the island. According to officers, it was clear the male had been suffering a "mental health episode". His mental health had been "significantly deteriorating".

A decision was made to transport the stowaway to The Royal Cornwall Hospital. The helicopter landed at 3:30 pm in Penzance. A land ambulance was due to take the man to Treliske.

According to the Force Incident Manager for Devon and Cornwall Police, the patient will receive the help and treatment he needed.

CMV Columbus was due to anchor in Plymouth Sound on October 14 for a day visit.
