First steel cut for P&O UK's Arvia cruise ship

With the steel cutting ceremony at MEYER WERFT (shipyard in Papenburg Germany) started construction works on the P&O Cruises UK's newest ship Arvia.

The name of the newbuild was announced by P&O just a few days ago. The boat is sistership to P&O Iona (identically designed) and scheduled for delivery in December 2022.

Representatives of the cruise company accompanied the milestone via video link from the United Kingdom. With Arvia, P&O has its 4th unit built by MEYER WERFT.

According to Stephan Schmees, Executive Board Member Project Management Ships, MEYER WERFT and P&O had a long-standing partnership. He added they were pleased to start the construction of Arvia and to continue the partnership.

One of the world's largest passenger ships (GT 184700 tons), Avria is LNG-powered, has 19 decks (11 with cabins), 2610 staterooms, 17 dining venues, 12 bars and lounges, 13 entertainment venues, 4 swimming pools, 18 outdoor Jacuzzis, kids-dedicated zones, 22 elevators.
