A tragic accident involving a Caribbean Princess passenger has happened off the coast of Belize on   January 8 (Friday). The Princess Cruises ship has been on a 7-night western Caribbean voyage from Houston.

The 67 year old Janice Mittelstadt from South Dakota has tragically passed away during a snorkeling excursion at Sergeants Caye, a popular small sandbar off the coast, noted as a difficult location to snorkel.

The woman was witnessed going underwater by another member of the excursion group, who prompted a rescue and attempted resuscitation. Following numerous attempts to revive Mittelstadt, she was transported on shore to emergency services.

Local Belizean police have not announced any information about medical conditions contributed to the accident.
