Alofi is the capital city of the Pacific Ocean island nation Niue, situated within the Realm of New Zealand. Alofi has a population of 1,600 people (2011 census), and the distinction of being the 2nd smallest national capital city (first is Ngerulmud, Palau's capital) in terms of population. It consists of the 2 villages named Alofi North and Alofi South where the headquarters of the government are located.

Alofi has a total area of 46.48 km2 (17.95 mi2). It is located at the central part of Alofi Bay on the island's west coast, near the only break in the coral reef which surrounds Niue. Alofi Bay stretches for 30% of the length of the island (about 7 km) from Makapu Point in the north to Halagigie Point in the south. It is also notable that the city of Alofi contains the largest toothbrush fence in the world.

Niue was hit by the tropical storm Cyclone Heta in January 2004. Two people were killed. Heta did extensive damage to the entire island. Lots of the buildings of Alofi were destroyed, including the hospital. The buildings of the government were shifted to a less exposed site named Fonuakula, 3 km (1.9 mi) inland from the west coast, after the storm. The site is still within the boundaries of Alofi South village.
