Arnhem is a Rhine River cruise port, major city and the capital of the Netherlands' Gelderland province, with population over 150,000. The city is on both banks of two rivers (Sint-Jansbeek and Nederrijn). As municipality, Arnhem is part of the Arnhem-Nijmegen metro region with total population around 740,000.

Arnhem's best-known tourist attractions are De HAN University of Applied Sciences, Openluchtmuseum (Netherlands Open Air Museum/antique houses, farms, factories), ArtEZ University of the Arts, National Sports Centre Papendal (Netherlands' Olympic Training Centre), Koninklijke Burgers' Zoo, Musis Sacrum, National Parks (Sonsbeek, Zypendaal, Veluwezoom, Hoge Veluwe), KEMA Toren (140-m/460-ft high TV tower).

Arnhem City's suburbs are Elden and Schaarsbergen. Unique is the city's trolleybus system (1949-inaugurated) which is the only one still operational in The Netherlands.
