Braubach (port locode DEBHY) is a Rhine River cruise port, town and municipality in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate state (Rhein-Lahn-Kreis district) with population around 3,000. The town lies on the river's right bank, approx 10 km (6 mi) southeast of Koblenz. It features assorted medieval architecture, including city walls, half-timbered buildings, and Marksburg Castle (on the hill above).
Braubach was granted a free city status in 1276 by King Rudolf of Habsburg (1218-1291) under Count Gottfried of Eppstein. In 1283 Count Eberhard I of Katzenelnbogen purchased the castle and the city. Until 1479, the Counts constantly rebuilt the castle it was never conquered, never destroyed. Braubach city was the administrative centre of the Katzenelnbogen wine production with Boppard, Horchheim, v, Salzig and Spay, and an amount of 84,000 l of wine in 1443.
