Chiang Khong is a Mekong River cruise port and town in Thailand's Chiang Rai Province. Since 2013, Chiang Khong is linked to Huay Xai (Laos' Bokeo Province) via a bridge. Previously, the border crossing here (Thailand-Laos) was via ferries. Following the bridge opening (December 2013) was also inaugurated a highway (connecting Chiang Rai to Bokeo via Chiang Khong) and a bus line (travel time ~4 hours). From Bokeo, the highway continues to the Laos-China border (via Luang Namtha).

Excepting river cruise ships, Chiang Khong is accessed mainly via regularly scheduled (twice daily) flights from Bangkok by the low-cost airline Nok Air (fly+minivan travel time ~3 hours). Another way to get here is via overnight bus service (from Bangkok's Mo Chit Bus Terminal) provided by Sombat Tour.
