Eltville am Rhein is a Rhein River cruise port and city in Germany's Hesse state (Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis district) with population around 17,000. It is the largest town in Rheingau winegrowing region.
Eltville is located on the southern slope of the Rheingau Mountains. In the early 14th century was started the construction of its archiepiscopal castle and city wall. In the period 1347-1480 here was the residence of Mainz archbishops. The town has several aristocratic courtyards, including Stockheimer (now Langwerth Winery), Crass Castle, Eltzer Hof.
