Gili Genting Island is one of the Gili Islands close to Lombok Island (Indonesia's West Nusa Tenggara province). Gili Genting is located just off the tip of a white-sand peninsular jutting into the ocean (Bali Sea).
- The word "Gili" translates as "small island", which explains why most of the isles around Lombok's coast have the "Gili" prefix in their names. There are a total of 280 small isles which the people of Lombok and Sumbawa named with the prefix "Gili".
- Off Sekotong Peninsula there are 12 more Gili islands (West Lombok Regency). Their names are Genting, Amben, Anyaran, Asahan, Nanggu, Tangkong (where the luxury resort Dharma Gili is planned), Sudak, Poh, Lontar, Layar, Gede, Layar. Of the 12, Gili Poh is the smallest.
- Gili Genting is a small island (basically a hill in the ocean). At high tide it's separated from the mainland via a shallow stretch of water. At low tide it's possible to walk out and explore the island.
- The island's rock formations are actually ancient lava flows into which the ocean has carved all kinds of shapes, caves and tunnels.
