  Port Map

Helsingor (port locode DKHLS), officially Elsinore, is a port city in eastern Denmark, with population around 60,000. This is also the closest Danish port to Sweden - approx 4 km (2 mi) from Helsingborg.

At the Royal Quay can dock vessels with max LOA length 150 (492 ft) and max depth 7 m (23 ft). Essential services, including bunkering, fresh water supply, and waste disposal, are provided. Pilotage and tugboat assistance are available but not mandatory.

In November 2016, the port commissioned a floating dock (located next to the Royal Quay) used for cruise ship tender boats docking.

In 2017, the cruise port handled a total of 7 ship calls.

Helsingor Vaerft (Elsinore Shipyard) was founded in 1882 and used to cover the whole area between Helsingor and Kronborg Castle. At its peak (1957), the shipbuilding facility had ~3600 employees. Due to heavy financial losses, the shipyard was closed in 1983.

The town's name is derived from the word "hals", which means "neck" ("narrow strait"), referring to the narrowest point of Oresund. Elsinore is the main shopping destination in North Sealand (North Zealand island), with more than 1 million visitors per year.

Wiibroe Brewery (1840-established) was Denmark's second brewery producing bottled beer (the Wiibroe Flag label) after Carlsberg. The last Wiibroe Flag was brewed in 1998. Carlsberg continues to brew the beer under the Wiibroe Årgangso label.

The city's oldest fortified building (Flynderborg) is an early medieval fortress on a hill south of the old city. The oldest church (Saint Olaf's Church) was built in the 13th century. Another popular tourist attraction is the 1915-founded Maritime Museum of Denmark, with collections themed on Denmark's shipping trade dating back to the 15th century.

Helsingor cruise terminal

Smaller-sized cruise ships dock very close to downtown. From the quay (where the ship is berthed) is a 5-minute walk to downtown.

Larger ships are anchored and their passengers are transported (via the ship's tender boats) to a landing pier. The Royal Quay is around a 20-minute walk from downtown.

The port is well-suited to tender operations, with a sheltered anchorage southeast of the ship entrance channel, offering depths of 20+ m (66 ft) and no restrictions on vessel size. Passengers are transferred via a modern floating tender pier measuring 90x6 meters. It is capable of handling 4 tender boats simultaneously. Tender operations take 5-10 minutes, delivering visitors directly into the historic downtown.

The "HH Ferry route" is operated by regularly scheduled car and passenger ferries, leaving every day from both Helsingborg and Helsingor. This ferry line is the world's busiest - with 70+ departures in each direction daily.

The Helsingor car ferry terminal is connected to the city's main railway station, from where trains depart every 20 minutes to Copenhagen.
