La Voulte-sur-Rhone is a Rhone River cruise port and town in France's Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region (Ardeche department) with population around 5,000 and total area approx 10 km2 (4 ml2).

The town is on river's right bank, at altitude 95 m (312 ft). A road bridge connects to Livron-sur-Drome (approx 6 km / 4 ml). Other close-located villages are Valence (19 km / 12 ml) and Privas (18 km / 11 ml). Neighboring towns are Beauchastel (north) and Le Pouzin (south).

The area is best-known for the various fossils found here, including cephalopods (molluscans). Fossilized cephalopods are rarely found, and Voulte-sur-Rhone is among one of the few to produce such fossils. Fossil preservation by pyrite is a geologically rare process. Other pyritized specimens found here include crustaceans, fish, ophiuroids (brittle stars). The exceptional preservation at this site is due to oxygen deficient water at the time of the deposition.
