Cruise Port schedule, live map, terminals, news
Pulau Ambon Island is one of Indonesia's Maluku Islands. It has total area approx 775 km2 (299 mi2) and population around 450,000. Ambon Island is located off Seram island's southwest coast and on the north side of Banda Sea.
Ambon Island is mountainous, fertile and well watered. Its main port and largest town is Ambon, which is also capital of Maluku Tengah and Maluku province. Island's highest elevation points are Wawani (1100 m / 3600 ft) and Salahutu (1225 m / 4019 ft), both featuring hot springs as these mountains are actually volcanoes.
Island's economy is based on agriculture, with main crops cassava and sago, also sugarcane, coffee, cocoa, breadfruit, cotton, pepper. Fishing and hunting supplement the local food. Copra (dried coconut) is also exported. Amboina wood (obtained from angsana trees) is highly valued and used for ornamental woodwork. Pulau Ambon's economy was boosted by Ciputra Group's investment in a satellite city (Citraland Bay View City) in Lateri (Kotamadya Ambon, Maluku). Ambon City Center (international-standard shopping mall) was opened in 2012. Ambon has its own airport, private and state universities.
