Romblon Island (port locode PHROM) is in the Sibuyan Sea, and is part of Romblon province (Philippines). The island has total population around 40,000, and is among the three major islands of the province, together with Tablas and Sibuyan.
Formerly, the province was named Lomlon (by the Spaniards), and later changed to Domblon.
In 1635, the island was evangelized and became dependent on the Captaincy General of the Philippines (administrative district of Spanish Empire).
Due to the Moors' attacks, a fortress was built with artillery in 3 strongholds - the fortified Cathedral of Romblon (still existing), and Santiago and San Andres (both now in ruins).
