Veliko Gradiste is a Danube River cruise port and town in Branicevo District (eastern Serbia), with municipaliy area approx 344 km2 (133 ml2) and population around 18,00. The town has population around 6,000. Veliko Gradiste is on Danube's right bank of Pek River's left bank.
Veliko Gradiste is translated from Serbian as "big building site". Dacians and Thracians lived in the region before the Romans conquering the Balkans in the 1st century BC. Back then, the town was named Pincum, part of Roma Empire's Upper Moesia province. Pincum relief of Trojan Cycle (depicting Hector and Achilles) was discovered in Ritopek (suburban settlement of Belgrade).
