Zaporizhzhia (aka Zaporozhye, until 1921 named Alexandrovsk) is a Dnieper River cruise port and city in southeastern Ukraine. By population (around 760,000) is ranked Ukraine's 6th largest.

Within the city limits is located Khortytsia Island (river's largest) which is part of Khortytsya National Park. As the river splits the city into two parts, the island is located in-between and has a length of approx 13 km (8 mi). Dnieper's two streams around the island are called New Dnieper (width 800 m / 2600 ft) and Old Dnieper (width 200 m / 650 ft).

The city is an important industrial center, having Motor Sich (producing aircraft and helicopter engines and industrial gas turbines), Ukraine's main car manufacturer ZAZ (producing the brands Zaporozhets and Tavria) and Zaporizhstal (country's 4th largest steelmaker). The economy is also based on the chemical industry and metallurgy, benefitting from the close proximity of large mines for coal, iron ore, manganese, aluminum. Port Zaporizhia is a major cargo port serving the transshipment of goods from the Donbas region. The city is also a large electricity producer with the DniproHES (hydroelectric power plant) and Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (Europe's largest). In Zaporozhye are generated about 1/4 of Ukraine's electricity.
