CMV Magellan cabins review
Follows the review of MS Magellan staterooms, including furniture, amenities, and complimentary services:
Each CMV Magellan cruise ship cabin has an en-suite bathroom (shower cubicle with plastic curtain, single-sink vanity, toilet, hairdryer, bathrobes), sleeping area (twin bed or two twins, some convertible to a Queen-size double bed, bedside tables, Stillform mattresses), living area, wardrobe (ample drawer and hanging space), mirrored vanity/dressing table with chair, direct-dial phone, electronic safe, mini-bar/fridge, individual air-conditioning (controlled via a twist knob), LCD TV, wall lighting, and nightly turndown service. Some cabins have additional Pullman beds for a third/fourth passenger. Most lower beds are in an L-shaped configuration. Toiletries (unbranded bath products) are regularly replenished and include wall-mounted shower gel/shampoo and two bars of soap.
Pullman beds are foldaway bunk beds pulled down from the wall. On Magellan, these are wall-mounted.
CMV’s onboard TV programming includes news and movie channels (BBC News, CNN International, BBC World, Film 4, CBS Drama, The Chart Show), a dedicated Magellan information channel (shore excursions, port talks, scheduled events, cruise director announcements), a Cruise DVD promotional channel, and a live cam channel (“view from the bridge”).
Guarantee Inside cabins (category IG, located on Baltic Deck 5 and Atlantic Deck 6) are rooms with assigned numbers at the ticketing stage. Cabin location cannot be requested. Most IG cabins are interior (without windows).
Standard Twin Inner (category 1) are on Caribbean Deck 4. Standard Plus Twin Inner (category 2) are on Baltic Deck 5. Superior Twin Inner (category 3) is on Atlantic Deck 6. Premium Twin Inner (category 4) are on Pacific Deck 7.
Standard Twin Oceanview rooms (categories 6P and 7P) have picture windows, except bow-located rooms on both decks, which have porthole windows. Standard Plus Twin Oceanview (category 8) are on Baltic Deck 5. Superior Twin Oceanview (category 9) are on Atlantic Deck 6. Superior Plus Twin Oceanview (category 11) and Premium Twin Oceanview (category 12) are on Pacific Deck 7.
All CMV Magellan Suites are located forward on Navigator Deck 11. The suite cluster includes six RS-Royal Suites, four DL-Deluxe Suites, and four JS-Junior Suites. These are the ship’s only balcony cabins, each with a private veranda furnished with one table and two chairs. Suites feature a larger, well-furnished sitting area, fixed queen bed (convertible to twins), two TVs, DVD player, tea/coffee maker, walk-in closet, sofa bed (for a third/fourth passenger), and a larger bathroom (with shower and/or bathtub and enhanced bath amenities). Suite-only bonus amenities include bathrobes, slippers, daily replenished fresh fruits and flowers, complimentary umbrella, world atlas, tote bag, daily newspaper (based on itinerary/ports), welcome gifts (Champagne bottle, bottled water, chocolates on the pillow), and priority services (embarkation, disembarkation, tendering). Complimentary services include laundry (for the duration of the voyage), DVD rental, in-cabin dining (continental breakfast and pre-dinner hors d'oeuvres), restaurant dining reservations (upon request), and shore excursion reservations.
All Deluxe Suites have partially obstructed views due to lifeboats. Royal Suite 1102 (bow-portside) is wheelchair accessible but has only a shower (no bathtub).
Room service is available 24 hours but is not complimentary. The menu includes: Caesar salad (GBP 8), soup (GBP 3.50), cheese and salad baguette (GBP 7), beef burger (GBP 13), homemade cake (GBP 6), and beverages (tea/coffee GBP 1.80). Complimentary in-cabin Continental breakfast is available between 7:00 – 10:00 AM (cereals, bread, pastries, yogurt, fruits, juices, hot drinks).
Magellan does not have self-service laundry rooms (launderettes). Dry cleaning is also unavailable. Laundry and ironing services are available at extra charge (GBP 2-6 per item).
Single Cruise Cabins
MS Magellan has only two designated single staterooms (numbers 5005 and 5006 on Baltic Deck). These can be booked at single occupancy rates without a supplement. Each has one lower and one upper bed and an en-suite bathroom.
- Superior Single Inner (category 5) are mostly located on Atlantic Deck 6 (one cabin is on Pacific Deck 7).
- Superior Single Oceanview (category 10) is located on Atlantic Deck 6 and features a picture window.
- Magellan also offers 150 Superior Twin inside and outside cabins allocated for single occupancy, available at a 25% supplement.
Handicap / Wheelchair-Accessible Cruise Cabins
- CMV Magellan has a total of 21 accessible cabins designed for passengers with mobility limitations and their travel companions. These cabins have wider entry doors (2.8 ft / 84 cm; bathroom door width: 2 ft / 58 cm), ample turning space, beds with open frames, lowered vanity in the sitting area, amplified phones, captioned TVs, and accessible bathrooms (roll-in shower, fold-down bench, grab bars, lower sink and closet rods, raised toilets, hand-held showerhead).
- Handicap cabin numbers are: 1102 (Royal Suite), 5086, 5089, 5090, 5091, 5093, 5095, 5096, 5097, 5098, 5099, 5137, 5188, 5195, 6075, 6081, 6084, 6085, 6088, 6153, 6208.
- All accessible cabins are conveniently located near elevators.
- All passenger decks are elevator-accessible. All onboard dining venues, bars, and lounges offer wheelchair access and seating.
