American Empress cabins review
Just like the steamboat’s public rooms, American Empress cabins are decorated and furnished with Victorian-style antiques and reproductions. All accommodations feature polished wood, Victorian-era wallpaper patterns, and framed paintings. Beds are comfortable, with ample under-bed storage space and luxury bedding sets. Only three cabins are wheelchair-accessible (for disabled passengers). The ship does not offer connecting or family cabins. There are seven total cabin categories.
The majority of staterooms feature private balconies. Each veranda is furnished with two wicker chairs and one cocktail table.
Below is a review of the American Empress riverboat cabins, detailing amenities, furnishings, and included (complimentary) services:
- SUITES (categories LS and A) and SUPERIOR STATEROOMS (category B) feature either a queen bed or two twin beds, a private bathroom (with WC, tub, and shower), a separate seating area with a couch/sofa bed, cocktail table and chairs, wet bar, Bose sound system, iHome speakers, and standard floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening onto a private balcony. Suite balconies are equipped with padded chairs.
- VERANDA CABINS (category E) have semi-private balconies.
- Each OUTSIDE CABIN (category D) includes a large, non-opening window.
- SINGLE OUTSIDE BALCONY ROOMS (category CS) offer the same features as Deluxe Verandas (category C) but are smaller and priced for single occupancy, making them more affordable for solo travelers.
- All staterooms include individually controlled air conditioning, flat-screen TV (satellite reception), dark wood wardrobe, dressers with ample drawer space, mini-bar/fridge, personal safe, phone, alarm clock, Keurig coffee/tea brewer, binoculars, luxury bath amenities (Clarins toiletries, terry robes, hairdryer), and plenty of electrical outlets and lighting.
- Smoking is prohibited inside the cabins and on the balconies. The only designated smoking area is on the sun deck.
- Complimentary soft drinks and bottled water are available throughout the cruise.
- Complimentary wines and beers are served at dinner only.
- Complimentary 24-hour room service is available. The menu includes standard breakfast fare, as well as sandwiches, burgers, macaroni and cheese, fresh salmon, and desserts.
- Complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access is provided.
- Operating on an all-inclusive basis, American Empress cruise fares also cover all shore excursions ("Steamcoach Tours" via luxury motorcoaches) and a one-night pre-cruise hotel stay.
Commodore Services (cruise ship suite perks)
Commodore Services are exclusive privileges offered by the American Queen Steamboat Company to guests booking LS-Luxury Suites on the American Empress. These complimentary perks include:
- Welcome gifts upon arrival: a fruit basket and a bottle of wine
- Suite tour upon arrival
- Priority boarding and dining arrangements
- Reserved balcony seating in "The Show Lounge" (the ship’s theater), with personal escort to the reserved seats
