Scenic Gem cabins review
All Scenic Gem cabins have a maximum capacity of 2 guests per cabin. With the exception of the lower (Jewel Deck 1) cabins (located at water level), all other staterooms (80%) are balcony cabins. They are advertised by Scenic Tours as “Suite” accommodations with “Sun Lounges”. Each of these features a private step-out balcony designed for all-weather use. The ship offers 12 cabin categories.
Follows a review of Scenic Gem staterooms, including furniture, price-included amenities, and complimentary services:
- Unlike most Scenic cruise ships, Gem has no single cabins (balcony suites can be booked with single-occupancy supplement rates).
- All Scenic Gem rooms feature twin beds (convertible to a queen, with luxury bedding sets), bedside tables with lamps, a luxury en-suite bathroom (WC, sink, shower cubicle, lighted mirror, color lighting system, luxury bath products including shampoo, liquid soap, conditioner, and body lotion), sliding-door closets (with hangers, drawers, and shelves), flat HDTV (linked to an Apple Mac mini computer with Infotainment system, radio, and “View From the Bridge” real-time webcam views), desk, bookcase, safe, leather chair, mini-bar (complimentary and restocked daily with soda, juice, sparkling water, liqueur, and snacks), iPod station (with clock), hairdryer, bathrobes, slippers, umbrella, individual climate control, and 220V power outlets (European/Australian sockets only; American guests need adapters).
- All staterooms on Jewel Deck 1 feature fixed (non-opening) picture windows located high on the riverside wall. All other accommodations are in Suite categories and feature floor-to-ceiling sliding doors opening to a private full-size veranda (furnished with one round table and two wicker chairs). These balconies (widely known as “Sun Lounges”) are glass-enclosed areas (part of the cabin) with comfortable seating, located behind floor-to-ceiling opening windows. Behind the windows are sheer and blackout curtains. The cabin’s “sun lounge” section can easily transform into an outdoor balcony at the push of a button.
- Suite bathrooms feature large glass-enclosed showers with doors.
- Both Royal Panorama Suites (1-bedroom suites located aft on Diamond Deck 3) are the largest accommodations on the ship. Their plans show aft-wall windows, a large lounge area with sofa, a bathroom with a separate shower and bathtub configuration, and a spacious wraparound balcony.
- Royal Suites (category R on Deck 3 portside) feature a larger lounge area (with sofa), bathrooms with dual sinks, a separate bathtub and shower, and ample cabinet space.
- The Junior Suite (on Deck 3 starboard) features a bathtub and an expanded vanity sink area with mirrored cabinets.
- You can see all furniture details for Scenic Tours Scenic Gem cabins in the table above.
- Complimentary butler service is available to all passengers. It includes shoeshine, shore excursion arrangements, spa reservations, and drinks service. Additional services available to passengers in all balcony cabin grades include morning coffee/tea delivery and cocktail party arrangements.
- Additional perks for Diamond Deck passengers include room-service breakfast and complimentary pressing (two items daily).
- Royal Suites butler service additionally includes luggage unpacking/repacking, free laundry and pressing, and in-room dining service.
- Laundry and pressing services (for a fee) are available for all Standard cabins. The ship has no self-service laundry facilities.
- Cabin service is provided twice daily.
