MS Margaritaville Islander (built in 2000 as Costa Atlantica, last refurbished by Costa in 2019 and again in March-April 2024) is the first of two Spirit-class Costa Cruises ships, together with Costa Mediterranea. The Spirit class also includes Carnival Cruise Line’sCarnival Legend, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Pride, and Carnival Spirit.
In Q3 2019, Costa Atlantica left Costa’s fleet to begin service for the new company CSSC-Carnival China Cruise Shipping (Adora Cruises). In 2020, she was joined by her sistership Mediterranea, followed in 2023 by Adora Magic City (a CCL Vista-class newbuild).
In December 2023, the ship officially joined the fleet of Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line/Margaritaville at Sea, with her maiden voyage for the brand scheduled for June 14, 2024.

The Costa Atlantica/Margaritaville Islander deck plan shows a total of 1105 staterooms accommodating 2210 passengers (maximum capacity 2680), served by 920 crew members. The ship has 12 passenger-accessible decks (8 with cabins, all named after Federico Fellini’s movies), 4 restaurants, 14 lounges and bars, 4 swimming pools (one with a retractable glass roof), 5 Jacuzzis (outdoor whirlpools), and 15 elevators. There are no self-service laundromats or passenger-use laundry facilities onboard.
The decks were named after Federico Fellini’s films: Luci Del Varietà (Deck 1), La Dolce Vita (2), La Strada (3), Roma (4), I Clowns (5), Amarcord (6), Intervista (7), 8½ (8), Ginger and Fred (9), E La Nave Va (10), La Voce Della Luna (11), and Le Notti di Cabiria (12).
Costa Atlantica featured numerous artworks by modern artists inspired by Federico Fellini’s films, displayed throughout the ship.
Costa Atlantica deck plan changes – 2015 refurbishment review
During Atlantica’s 18-day drydock refurbishment in Shanghai (January 2015), a total of 52 new Inside and Suite staterooms were added.
- The additional cabins were built forward on decks 9 and 10, increasing the ship’s capacity from 1057 to 1109 staterooms, from 2114 to 2218 passengers, and raising the maximum capacity from 2680 to 2836 passengers.
- On Lido Deck 9 and Spa Deck 10, 32 Mini-Suites with Balconies (category MS) and 16 Inside Premium staterooms (category IP) were added, utilizing space previously occupied by the forward-located Palestra Olympia (part of the Ischia Spa complex).
