On November 20, 2023, Mein Schiff 5 docked in Dubai UAE for a scheduled drydock refurbishment. Commencing the first of two relocation voyages via the Suez Canal (from the Mediterranean to Asia/RepositionCruises.com), the vessel is scheduled for a 12-day stay at Dubai Dry Docks. This period encompasses routine maintenance and classification works, enhancements in public areas, and also the installation of shore power connectivity.

The refurbishment will breathe new life into public spaces that have endured years of continuous cruise operation, ensuring a rejuvenated ambiance for future passengers. A notable advantage of the dry dock process is the accessibility it affords to the entire hull, enabling the renewal of hull paint and fortifying the ship against the rigors of the marine environment.

A key feature of Mein Schiff 5's drydocking in Dubai is the integration of shore power connectivity. Following the precedent set by TUI's ships Schiff 1, Schiff 4, and Schiff 6, Schiff 5 is poised to be the fourth ship in the fleet equipped with a shore power system.

The shore power connection will enable Mein Schiff 5 to link to onshore electrical grids while berthed (in ports), substantially diminishing its reliance on onboard generators. This technological advancement is designed to facilitate nearly emission-free ship operation during port stays.

Mein Schiff 5 is scheduled to resume guest operations on December 3, 2023, embarking on a 17-day voyage from Dubai to Singapore. As Mein Schiff 5 returns to passenger service, future shipyard stays in Dubai are already in the plans for the coming years. The commitment to sustainability extends beyond Mein Schiff 5, with Mein Schiff aiming to outfit the entire fleet with shore power connections.
