On Monday, May 19th, a two-year-old kid died on the Costa Toscana ship while en route between Civitavecchia/Rome and Savona.

The incident occurred during a scheduled 7-day Western Mediterranean itinerary.

The child, identified as the son of a Chinese couple residing in France, reportedly collapsed suddenly while playing. Despite immediate medical intervention by the ship's medical team, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

According to Italian media reports, the boy had previously undergone heart surgery but had appeared healthy throughout the voyage.

Following the incident, Costa Toscana continued to Savona. Upon arrival, local authorities boarded the vessel to conduct interviews with the ship's medical staff, crew, passengers, and the child's parents.

Preliminary findings suggest that the child died of natural causes, likely linked to his existing heart condition.

Arrangements are being made for the repatriation of the body to France. The incident has had a profound impact on the family, crew, and fellow passengers.
