Virgin Voyages, celebrated for charting a path of emotional resonance and personal discovery across the seas, has given its emblematic mermaid figures new depth and presence. The line has unveiled The Mermaids: A Virgin Voyages Tale, a cinematic narrative series fully generated by AI in collaboration with agency Native Foreign.
Four mermaids—Scarlet, Valiant, Resilient, and Brilliant—appear in the film as living symbols of the Sailor experience, embodying passion, courage, resilience, and wisdom. These figures, previously visual anchors on the Lady Ships, now assume roles that mirror passenger journeys: from daring adventure to introspective growth.
Editorial Director Bailey Edwards explained that the brand has always centred its narrative on transformation, and these mermaids, long tied to the company’s essence, now speak to individuality and emotional connection. The film grants these icons voices, expanding them beyond imagery to characters that resonate with the spirit of Virgin’s Sailors.
The series also introduces a guiding figure, the “Mother of the Mystic Seas,” who weaves the four mermaids into a cohesive story—a narrative choice reflecting the brand’s broader implementation of AI-driven storytelling.
Creative Director Nik Kleverov remarked that the project exemplifies AI’s creative potential—not merely for replication, but to bring bold, imaginative concepts to life. The technique allows the brand to project mythic content flexibly and at scale.
Behind the cinematic release is a sweeping transformation in Virgin Voyages’ marketing strategy. Integration of AI tools such as OpenAI, Jasper, and Canva aims to produce emotionally aligned content efficiently across channels while preserving brand identity. Senior Brand Marketing Director Billy Bohan Chinique described this campaign as the first time the company has employed scalable storytelling architecture—melding brand narrative, product offerings, and guest identity into one unified system—a structural leap beyond conventional campaign models.
The mermaids now serve as vessels of brand and product narrative, connecting emotion and identity to each voyage and destination. The Mermaids: A Virgin Voyages Tale is now available on the company’s YouTube channel, with additional chapters expected before the Brilliant Lady debuts.
