Celebrity Infinity remains alongside in Kusadasi, Turkey, following a small onboard electrical fire that precipitated a temporary loss of power on July 7th.
Though the blaze was minor, it caused a total blackout lasting several hours, disrupting lighting, air conditioning, galley operations, and entertainment for guests—a discomfort compounded by the region’s summer heat.
A notice delivered to cabins on July 9th clarified that repairs were still ongoing, necessitating the cancellation of remaining Greek calls. Consequently, the cruise retained its berth until 3 p.m. Friday, with departures scheduled for 2 p.m. that afternoon. The ship was set to sail directly to Athens (Piraeus) for disembarkation on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
Prior to the incident, guests had visited only Santorini on July 6, and ports including Mykonos, Kavala, and Thessaloniki were subsequently crossed off the itinerary.
In place of those stops, the company arranged complimentary curated excursions in the Kusadasi region, including options extending beyond Ephesus. These activities were made available through the Celebrity app on a first-come, first-served basis.
Facing a truncated voyage, guests are being compensated fully via a dual-structure package: a 50% refundable onboard credit and a 50% future cruise credit valid for bookings within a year.
Pre-booked shore tours for canceled ports are automatically refunded, and any unused onboard funds will be reimbursed post-cruise.
While some passengers remain anxious about the vessel’s fitness to sail, the company maintains that the ship is safe and seaworthy, and that Athens disembarkation will proceed as planned.
Cabin inconveniences such as loss of AC and lighting persist, but safety-critical systems have been stabilized.
As repairs continue, the resolution of the remaining itinerary depends on the successful restoration of essential systems. Celebrity has affirmed its commitment to restore normal service swiftly and maintain the original disembarkation schedule.
