Azamara Cruises has entered into partnership with Lowell Observatory to enhance three voyages in 2026 that coincide with a total solar eclipse. The collaboration will bring astronomical programming at sea, led by Lowell’s scientists, to accompany the rare phenomenon.

The partnership is designed to offer passengers not only prime eclipse viewing from open ocean vantage points, but also a structured programme of lectures, stargazing sessions, and guided demonstrations. Lowell Observatory will provide safe viewing equipment and live narration during the event, ensuring that the celestial spectacle is contextualised within the broader study of astronomy.

Azamara has indicated that its vessels will be positioned in distinct regions on August 12th, 2026 to observe the eclipse. Azamara Onward will sail an 11-night voyage from Athens through the Mediterranean, with a scheduled viewing at sea between Greece and Italy. Azamara Quest will depart Dublin on a 12-night itinerary along Ireland’s western approaches, placing guests in the Atlantic for the event. Azamara Journey will undertake an 18-night sailing from Reykjavik through Greenland and onward to Canada, offering a northern perspective of the eclipse from Arctic waters.

Through this cooperation with Lowell Observatory, Azamara seeks to frame the eclipse as both a visual spectacle and an educational encounter, in keeping with its emphasis on destination immersion and cultural depth.
