HAL-Holland America Line will bring the essence of Alaska to New York City this November as it debuts its first float in the 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 27th, 2025. The float marks the cruise line’s upcoming 80th anniversary of sailing to Alaska and will celebrate the state’s rugged landscapes and pioneering spirit through intricate design and motion-driven artistry.
The float will feature dynamic, kinetic elements that bring glaciers, wildlife, and Denali National Park to life along the parade’s 2.5-mile route. Holland America Line aims to capture Alaska’s natural grandeur while honoring its deep connection to the region, forged over decades of exploration. The design also reflects the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship, highlighting initiatives such as its Glacier Guarantee and the Global Fresh Fish Program, which supports local Alaskan fisheries and promotes sustainably sourced seafood onboard.
Beth Bodensteiner, president of Holland America Line, noted that the float serves as both a tribute to Alaska and an invitation for travelers to experience its unspoiled beauty firsthand. The project, produced in collaboration with Macy’s Parade organizers, will feature what is described as the largest kinetic sculpture in the event’s history — an engineering feat that adds unprecedented motion and depth to the Parade’s long-standing tradition.
Holland America Line announced its participation during a ceremony aboard Eurodam in Juneau, Alaska, joined by state and local officials, including Juneau’s mayor and Alaska’s Commissioner of Commerce, who both praised the effort as a unique opportunity to share Alaska’s wonders with a national audience.
As the company prepares to celebrate 80 years of Alaskan voyages in 2027, it continues to expand its offerings across the region. For the 2026 season, 6 ships will operate itineraries of 7 to 28 days between Seattle, Vancouver, and Whittier, with extended Cruisetours reaching Denali and the Yukon — the only cruise line to include the latter.
The 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air nationwide on NBC and stream on Peacock, bringing Holland America Line’s homage to Alaska before millions of viewers across the country.
