Silversea has completed its World Cruise 2026, titled The Curious and the Sea, marking the conclusion of a 140-day circumnavigation aboard Silver Dawn. The voyage linked 59 destinations across 30 countries and 6 continents, presenting an itinerary structured around cultural access, destination immersion and extended engagement with local traditions.

Rather than approaching the voyage solely as a sequence of port calls, Silversea framed the journey as an extended movement through contrasting maritime regions and cultural landscapes. From the South Pacific and Southeast Asia through Africa and onward to Europe, the route culminated in Lisbon, bringing together a broad collection of experiences designed to connect guests more deeply with place, cuisine and local customs.

Silversea President Bert Hernandez described the voyage as an expression of an evolving model of luxury travel, one increasingly centred not on simply arriving at destinations but on developing a fuller relationship with them. He noted that The Curious and the Sea was conceived to prioritise cultural access and meaningful encounters, and that its outcome would inform the company’s approach to future global programmes, including the forthcoming World Cruise 2027, titled The Three Oceans.

Across the voyage, Silversea staged a series of exclusive events created specifically for World Cruise guests. These included cultural celebrations in French Polynesia and Vanuatu, culinary experiences in Bali and India, and a Cape Town evening shaped around South African heritage and supported by a bespoke menu created by nine-time Michelin-starred chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen.

The final guest event, A Feast of Flowers in Funchal, aligned with Madeira’s annual Flower Festival and offered a closing expression of the themes that had carried through the itinerary. Beginning at the central market and continuing into a garden reception, the evening incorporated local flavours, live music, floral displays and staged performances alongside a multi-course dinner, reflecting the relationships and shared experiences formed during the voyage.

Beyond scheduled events, guests also accessed curated shore programmes and overland extensions intended to deepen understanding of each region visited. These experiences extended the voyage beyond the ship itself and reinforced the broader objective of allowing time for observation and connection rather than rapid movement between destinations.

Looking ahead, Silversea has outlined a continuation of its global sailing programme through future World Cruise offerings. World Cruise 2027, The Three Oceans, will traverse the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans with events intended to highlight regional heritage, including a Polynesian sunset celebration, a visit to Victoria Falls and a musical experience in Belfast. World Cruise 2028, An Ode to the Moment, will emphasise longer stays and deeper access across more than 30 UNESCO World Heritage sites, while World Cruise 2029, A Pacific Awakening, is planned as a 125-day exploration of the Pacific basin with expanded destination coverage across Oceania and Asia.

Together, these future voyages suggest a continued shift in long-distance cruising toward longer engagement ashore, broader cultural programming and itineraries designed not merely to cover distance but to create sustained maritime narratives across the world’s oceans.
