Explora Journeys has unveiled its first programme in Alaska, scheduled for the summer of 2027. Operating from May to September, the season will mark the debut of the newly built EXPLORA III in the Pacific Northwest, representing the vessel’s first deployment in the region following its entry into service in July 2026.
The itineraries have been designed around a slower-paced style of exploration, combining Alaska’s renowned natural landmarks with smaller coastal communities that are often inaccessible to larger cruise ships. The programme places emphasis on extended destination engagement rather than port-intensive schedules.
EXPLORA III features 14 passenger decks and accommodates guests in 461 oceanfront suites, penthouses and residences. All accommodations are equipped with floor-to-ceiling windows and private terraces. Public facilities include a 700-square-metre wellness spa with a hydrotherapy pool and salt cave, heated outdoor pools, indoor whirlpools, and new culinary venues, including an immersive Chef’s Table concept and a dedicated wine cellar.
The shore programme has been structured around small-group experiences that highlight Alaska’s glaciers, wildlife and cultural heritage. Glacier-focused excursions include helicopter flights over the Juneau Icefield with landings on the Mendenhall Glacier, specialised catamaran operations at Hubbard Glacier, and jet-boat expeditions from Wrangell to LeConte Glacier Bay.
Wildlife encounters form another key element of the programme. Guests will have opportunities to observe black bears in the Tongass National Forest near Ketchikan, as well as humpback whales, orcas and sea lions on dedicated marine wildlife excursions from Prince Rupert.
Cultural experiences have also been incorporated into the itineraries. In the Great Bear Rainforest, guests will be welcomed by members of the Indigenous Kitsumkalum community through traditional performances and local culinary presentations. In Skagway, a heritage rail journey over the historic White Pass route will provide insight into the region’s gold rush history.
Explora Journeys stated that the collection had been developed to bring travellers closer to the landscapes, wildlife and cultures that define Alaska. The company further noted that EXPLORA III’s expansive outdoor areas and uninterrupted sightlines had been designed to enhance the experience of viewing the region’s natural environment.
Bookings for the inaugural Alaska season are now open. Among the featured voyages is the 7-night Journey Through Ice-Carved Treasures and Cultural Discoveries, departing Seward on July 16th, 2027 and concluding in Vancouver. The itinerary includes calls at Sitka, Skagway and Wrangell, together with scenic cruising in the vicinity of Dawes Glacier and Tracy Arm Fjord.
