Costa Cruises Ship Suffers Blackout in Abu Dhabi

   December 24, 2016 ,   Accidents

Costa Cruises' ship Costa neoRiviera suffered loss of electricity onboard during a visit to Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, December 21, switching to emergency power for a few hours during the afternoon.

According to the staff aboard, a fault with one of the aft generators of the vessel caused the loss of power.

All essential onboard systems remained fully functional during the ‘blackout’ with some parts of the ship’s corridors and internal areas in darkness.

Some bar services were suspended on-board and the air-conditioning was off for around two hours. The ship’s spa, with a sauna, steam room, was also forced to close. The lack of air-conditioning became uncomfortable toward the end of the black out, just before power was restored.

Costa neoRiviera sailed on time from Abu Dhabi at midnight, bound for Dubai, where she spent a night in port without further incident.

Costa neoRiviera was on the closing leg of her 7-night roundtrip Dubai to Dubai cruise itinerary in the Arabian Gulf, visiting Muscat, Sir Bani Yas Island, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

She is sailing this same itinerary until the end of March, 2017.
