The luxury P&O Cruises ship Aurora, which is based in Southampton, drifted for nearly an hour after a fire took hold of the engine room Wednesday morning, September 20.

The vessel was in the mid-Atlantic sailing for the Azores when the fire caused it lose electricity and propulsion. Eventually the fire was extinguished after burning for nearly an hour.

Aurora, which on August 27 left Southampton on a Canada and USA cruisetour with around 2000 passengers, is now using emergency generators. The ship is due to dock in Southampton UK on September 26.
