A 16-year-old boy died aboard a Royal Caribbean ship while trying to enter his stateroom from the neighboring balcony, falling to death.
The teen passenger was Laurent Mercer from the Territory of the Wallis and Futuna Islands. On January 11, while aboard Harmony of the Seas, he tried to get into his 8th-floor bedroom from the balcony of a neighbor but lost his footing and fell on the pier. The ship had been berthed in Labadee Haiti.
The medical team of the ship responded to the pier and attempted CPR. However, the teen had sustained major head trauma and was pronounced dead.
On Sunday, the 7-day voyage returned to Port Everglades, where the body was delivered to the county.
