Ports of Stockholm, Sweden invests in new cruise ship quay

Ports Stockholm Sweden is among the world's largest passenger ports. A EUR 1,5 million investment to build a new cruise ship quay is planned, which is expected to double the capacity for cruise vessels.

The project starts in 2021 and is scheduled for completion for season 2023.

Following the EUR 1,5 million investment, the new dock (at Frihamnen Port) will be used as a cruise quay and also for handling project cargo ships. The addition of the new quay at the Port will double the capacity for turnaround cruises.

Stockholm is the number one destination for international cruise traffic in Sweden, as well as one of the world’s most popular cruise capitals. The scenic sailings to Stockholm through the archipelago culminate in arrival in the downtown and make the experience unique.

In a normal year, ~300 cruise ships visit Stockholm. The industry contributes greatly to the region's economic growth. In total, the visiting ships and passengers, taking into account food, hotel rooms, sightseeing excursions, shopping, transport, etc., create an economic effect of EUR 176 million and generate ~1,100 jobs.
